Heyo dear, how's the weekend going? I hope you're unwinding well and enjoying yourself? Very important.
Speaking of the weekend, it's usually when most people spend more time at home and are faced with a higher temptation to eat everything that comes their way.
Are you guilty??
Now, before you throw the next thing into your mouth, grab a seat and let's have a heart-to-heart talk. I just wrote you a letter… enjoy!
Dear foodie,
Can you boldly declare that your stomach is proud of all that you send into it??
If we should do an audit of your eating habits, will the result show that you've been feeding life to your system or not?
The things you call 'small chops' hope they are not about to give you big problems??
You are what you eat. Yep! Most sicknesses and illnesses can be traced to nutrition. There are a lot more nutrition related illnesses than you'd want to believe.
And of all the illnesses you might deal with, nutrition-related illnesses should not be on the list.
Never!!!
Did you ask why??
Simple…
Because you are 100 percent responsible for what you eat. And the more intentional you are about that, the better for you, your health and future.
Take absolute charge of what you eat. Feed yourself life. What you call enjoyment should not have long term health implications in the future.
And you definitely can begin now, today, from where you are and what you already have.
Eat fresh foods, cut down on processed foods and foods containing preservatives.
Eat fruits and vegetables, cut down on small chops.
Drink smoothies, fresh juices, homemade drinks like zobo and kunu, cut down on fizzy and carbonated drinks.
Don't forget to drink lots of water too. Good old water remains the number one liquid we have.
Drink lots of it, please. You can't even get drunk on water, isn't that great?
And if you still struggle to enjoy water, here's a little hack: try infusing fruits into your water. Just cut up fruits and add to your water, let it sit for a while before you consume. You'd enjoy it better that way.
As per healthy eating, this was my obsession just last month..lol. I went really crazy about drinking gingerized water. A.k.a water infused with ginger.
But right now, my attention has shifted. Anyways, guess who's going back to drinking ginger water??
You guessed right.
It particularly serves as a detoxifier and helps bowel movement when taken first thing after waking up.
Back to business...
Reduce your use of seasoning cubes, explore spices.
You don't have to fry everything you eat. Boil that egg instead.
Return to 'local' foodstuffs, not every packaged and canned food is better than their 'local' counterparts.
Why won't you buy fresh carrots and chop? Must you buy canned one?
Who says your stew cannot be made from fresh tomatoes and pepper only?
Must your chicken be frozen? Why not buy live fowl and have it killed?
And please don't tell me healthy eating is expensive. That's a myth already imprinted in your subconscious mind and you must debunk it now!
Wherever you are financially, there's a healthier alternative for what you already consume. Just look well and make the switch already.
How about you buy fruits in traffic instead of junks?
How about you snack on nuts like tigernut, coconut, groundnut, walnut instead of the ones you're thinking of now?
There's always a healthier alternative guys!!!
And if you say you don't have the time. I agree. But whatever you can't create the time for now would demand that time of you later, in the form of consequence and you'd have no option then.
If you don't have the time to cook healthy, then you should have the money to buy that time. Employ a chef and teach them to cook you only healthy meals.
Pay those that sell homemade drinks to make in large quantities, with your specifications and preferences and deliver to you.
One of my aunties usually pays a woman that sells pap to make in large quantities and supply her. She'd refrigerate it and enjoy it as she goes instead of buying the alternative that we'd say 'studied abroad'.
Just find a way baby. Where there's a will, there's a way.
Let me tell you what...your food definitely has a toll on your strength level. So you gotta eat for strength and not weakness.
Junk doesn't strengthen you in the long run.
And just before I wrap this up... ensure you choose healthy eating for a good enough reason. Have a greater 'why'
Not because I said so...
Or because you want to quickly join the train of team #fitfam
But because you have to be a better caretaker of your body.
Because you should be spending your money on the right stuff
Because you don't want to pay more visits to your doctor than you would your friends and family.
Because you deserve better health in your old age.
And because you need strength for your assignments and to fulfill purpose.
Healthy eating shouldn't be just for the looks or shape but for the future.
Your body deserves to be in it's optimum state to help you fulfil purpose, start that investment already.
Your body is the temple of the Most High, feed that temple with body building meals.
And like you already know that with anything that would last in our lives, conviction must be the backbone. And conviction comes from knowing.
So get to sustaining this knowledge with even more knowledge; research and fortify your mind with the right information, and I bet you'd not struggle to eat healthy again.
Now, I know that this might be new to you. Don't get overwhelmed. Start gradually and ensure consistency. Consistency is definitely better than perfection.
Before you give up even before trying, I'm not saying you should stop eating all those things altogether, at least not now. But cut down on them drastically such that your system is cleased of them to an extent.
Your focus should be on having a higher ratio of healthier ingredients to others on your plate at all times. So fortify your normal meals with healthy accompaniments and then go ahead to increase the portion till you arrive at a completely healthy meal.
And still take out time to detoxify your system periodically so as to reduce unhealthy to the barest minimum.
Make the swaps and switches carefully 'cos you might really need to retrain your taste buds. Do so with caution or else you'd be frustrated.
So there you go people... in all thy eating, eat right, eat healthy and eat life.
Remember, you are what you eat.
Love and Light
