A.U.G.U.S.T!
The month of new beginnings! Happy new month, guys.
Apart from my birth month and the month of December, August is another month I like. No reason in particular.
Hello, and welcome to my blog. How have you been? How's the month going?
From the beginning of this year and even our lives, one thing we've consistently been faced with is the issue of choices.
The concept of choices is as old as man. I'm typing this right now because I chose to, you're reading this right now because you chose to. We both could have opted for something else, but here we are.
A happy life is a life where the right choices have been made consistently. A happy new month will be one where great choices were made and kept to.
Wanna have a happy new month? Keep reading, leave a comment when you're through and share with your friends and fans.
Let's go!
Life is a matter of choice and each day you make choices; either actively or passively. When you decide to do something, you automatically decide to not do other things.
Some things simply have to give way for other things to be achieved, and it's in your hands to place each in their respective place. The bigger your vision, the consequent decrease in your options, especially those that pose as distractions.
James Clear in Atomic Habits mentioned that each action you take is a vote for who you want to become. With each action you take or don't take, you are casting a vote either for or against your future self.
No matter the awareness level of the choices we make, we still make them. So how about we become intentional about the kind of choices we make? Especially as a vote for the person, we hope to become…
This, my dear, is the reason for this post. What kind of choices have you made in the past? What kind of choices do you want to make going forward? Choose ye this day…
I have highlighted ten areas where our choices should be audited. Of course, the areas are inexhaustible, but I think we can start with these…
Choose ye this day; whether to lead your life or accept your life.
John C Maxwell in his book, Today Matters, said most people accept their lives... whatever happens. Don't fall into the school of thought that what will be will be. Choose what you want to be and go right after it.
Choose ye this day; whether to live by autopilot or to live intentionally.
The term autopilot by dictionary definition refers to a state of mind where one no longer thinks about doing one's actions but acts mechanically.
Sometimes, we operate in this mode. Where we wake up and go through the day without having made plans to be productive or intentional about the activities we engage in.
So we can spend hours scrolling through social media, gisting aimlessly, and sleeping unnecessarily. And then by day end, we wonder how the time flew. The time did not fly, ma. You just didn't have a plan for it.
Before the day begins, a plan should have been made for how it should go. That's how to be intentional and not resign to autopilot mode.
Whether to serve God or not.
Should this even be on the table? I mean our lives should be ministry expressions of the gospel, whether on the pulpit or in the workplace.
Service to God and humanity is the total of your reason for existing. Choose to serve well, wherever. Serve excellence, serve competence, serve well.
Whether to live healthily or not.
With long life will God satisfy you, definitely. But are you consciously making choices to set yourself up for a long life? What are you eating or not eating? Don't eat away your future, don't die slowly in the name of enjoyment. Eat healthily, exercise regularly, and keep your confessions right.
Whether to be wealthy or poor.
You have the power to make wealth, yes. But are you making use of that power or watching it stay latent? Don't settle for the crumbs of life, God wants you to sit at the table. He prepared a table for you, baby. And wealth doesn't have a mystery to it. It simply has principles that should be obeyed. Choose to obey them.
Whether to be a value-adding friend or a parasitic friend.
Relationships are vital to our existence here. No one is an island. We all need somebody, our people, our tribe. And I believe people want us too. But there's a kind of person you can be that will repel people. Choose not to be that kind of person. Be a great daughter, sister, aunt, friend, spouse, etc.
Invest in your relationships as needed and be a value-adding somebody to somebody.
Whether to be a victor or a victim.
Life is a battle, and challenges are inevitable. But what matters is what you do with the challenges that come. Do you crumble under the weight or do you rise above them? To make excuses or make progress? To finish strong or fall out? Make your choice.
Whether to be on fire or lukewarm.
When a roadside corn seller doesn't want her pot of coal to exhaust, she keeps adding coal to it. What are you adding to keep your heart burning for Jesus? You must always fan the flame of your passion for Christ or play with lukewarmness like the game of chess.
Whether to die empty or die full.
Myles Munroe said the cemetery is the richest place in the world. Many songs that were never written or sung. Many businesses that never began. Many books that were never written. Many visions not birthed.
God stopped creation after creating man; you and me. We are now co-creators by the covenant and must work to bring heaven to Earth. Will you contribute to the wealth of the cemetery? Choose ye this day.
Choose ye this day; whether to have a fixed or growth mindset.
Brilliance is generally elastic and expandable. You can always know more so long as you commit yourself to it. Learning never ends. You put a lid over your knowledge when you begin to label yourself mentally. Some people say they are not the reading or writing type. And I ask, are you the growing type? If you are, then you can learn anything.
I'm a graduate of Microbiology and before I gained admission to the university I had very shallow knowledge of Microbiology. But with every course I took, my knowledge expanded. Make room in your mind for new knowledge and go for it.
Choose to be knowledgeable, choose to grow, choose to be better.
With every choice you make, remember there are actions that enforce them. What will you begin to do to become that man or woman you envisage? It isn't enough to just choose...stick your neck out and work out the choice.
Now think of where you want to be in 50 years and start doing that which you know will lead you there.
Selah.
How about you flip your wrong habits and begin afresh? You are permitted to restart your life, reignite your passions, and refocus on your goals. You are allowed to start again. Whether it is the 1st of January, 1st of June, or 19th of September. Just start again and make better choices this time around.
Happy new month, once again. I hope you make great choices and stick with them. I also hope you choose to share this post and not read it alone.
Ps: One of the choices I made this month is to cut down on my social media time. I realized I've been spending a lot of unscheduled time there. So I called for a social media Sabbath. Meaning no social media within a certain time frame. And I'll use that time to read more, study more and blog more. So help me God.
Love and Light
